Subject: SCOOP!

(Publisher's Note: In the publishing game Friday isn't the best day for a scoop if you                                       want a lot of people to read it. It is a good day if your objective
is to release something important that you don't want many people to notice
because their mind is on the weekend not news - a trick often employed by
politicians).

                                          EXCLUSIVE
                                 by Richard DePersio
                (groups.google.com/group/rickcosmos-eclectic)
DATELINE: New York and Florida; 10:OO P.M. eastern

It isn't a little white lie but an astronomically-sized one. Obama claims that
he wants an ambitious program of manned exploration of the solar system
while shifting NASA focus from space to green pseudo-science. He contends
that he wants a heavy-lifter to replace Shuttle in five years. The first goal
isn't achievable for he is laying-off virtually all of the Shuttle
and Constellation Teams of administrators, managers, scientists, engineers,
technicians. The second isn't attainable in five years even if he weren't kicking
great teams out of the space hatch door. He is telling you that he can do it
in five years starting from scratch with a new team! And, the $ 9 billion spent
on Constellation will go down a presidential black hole!  He is destroying our pride
and joy and our number one position in space science and technology with
all the economic ramifications thereof with an Obama ray gun!
Citizen Reporter:  "How does it look for Shuttle. Is it on death bed?'
Senator's Aide: Bi-partisan support for extending program for two years but
a majority of Congress doesn't seem to be behind it yet."
CR:  "What does Senator mean toward end of letter on SpaceRef (posted below)-
a bit legalese. Does he want to start from sratch?"
SA: "Senator doesn't. Assets include: Shuttle and Constellation teams remaining;
R & D facilities built for Constellation should continue to be used; contracts with
same companies;  Two components under-development in Constellation- Ares 1 & 5
heavy-lifter and Orion - shouldn't  be abandoned - - their data, R & D, facilities- but
we should determine where it may be applicable in the design of a new heavy-lifter
as per president's request."
CR:  "Keeping teams and some of the technologies of Apollo, Shuttle and    Constellation."
SA:  "If they can be used as is or modified in new heavy-lifter and manned program."

We still want our  fresh, new original proposals considered: a cutting edge version
of the Saturn S-N (planned for late 1970's but cancelled; mini-Orion that NASA and
Boeing were once developing but cancelled; modified civilian versions of 'secret'
Air Force X-37B unmanned and manned models. We have suggested concepts to
two senators thus far. Good start but we want more. There  is nothing wrong with Ares 1 & 5                     as is.We are willing to compromise: extend life of shuttle for 2 to 4 years depending
on SpaceX progress.  'Cyber-friends,' we must stick together: Continue to phone or leave               messages at websites of 9 members     of congress listed below. We want most of Constellation            saved (we will no long demand all; we must be willing to compromise).
